If you are in the asylum process, these are 6 benefits you have in the UK:

  • While your application is being assessed, you cannot be deported, except in specific cases such as a claim by another EU country under the Dublin Regulation or by an international criminal court.
  • If you have no financial resources, the government provides basic accommodation, often in hotels or temporary housing, and a weekly allowance for essential needs.
  • Free access to the NHS (National Health Service) for basic healthcare. This includes dental and optical care.
  • Access to a state-funded lawyer (Legal Aid) is no longer guaranteed, but you do have the right to an interpreter during the application process if you cannot afford one.
  • Children under 18 have the right to attend public school.
  • You may work after 12 months of waiting if your application has not been decided, only in jobs on the Shortage Occupation List, and provided you have not caused delays in the process.
